this sweet little carved vase is thrown on a potters wheel in a speckle clay, then carved and trimmed before being sent through a specific firing called soda.
soda firings are unique because you don't know what kind of affect you are going to get with the process • the soda that is sprayed in the kiln when it reaches temperature becomes a sort of "cloud" that flows around the pots. where the "cloud" touches the clay, it leaves its mark – sometimes creating a smooth, glossy surface, and other times a textured, colorful one. in this case, the firing left behind a glossy beige/green glaze on top and bare textured fruit-skin like clay on the bottom.
each piece created is unique and carved free-hand. and a unique note about this piece, there are moments of blue/purple opalescences around the rim (see images).
measuring to be about 4.5" tall and 3.5" wide, with an opening around 2.25".
